Following the news that iconic label Parlophone are to release strictly limited-edition vinyl singles by the Beatles, Lilly Allen, Hot Chip, Pet Shop Boys, Bat For Lashes, Babyshambles and Tinie Tempah in celebration of Record Store Day on April 17 comes the announcement that Blur are to join in the spirit with their first new single since 2003's 'Good Song.'
The newly recorded song -- whose title is yet to be revealed -- comes hot on the heels of last summer's incredibly successful reunion concerts by the reformed Britpoppers.
Speaking to the Sun, singer Damon Albarn said, "We want independent record stores to continue -- they're an important part of our musical culture.
"Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it."
And yet it almost didn't happen. A source told the newspaper, "Initially, Damon had no intention of going back into the studio with Blur. He's been very busy with Gorillaz.
"But he couldn't resist seeing if the magic was still there with his old chums. And it was.
"They've recorded a limited-edition seven-inch single which will be released a week tomorrow (April 17)."
As with Parlophone's other limited edition releases, the new Blur single will be limited to run of 1,000 seven-inch vinyl singles and will only be available from stores participating in Record Store Day.
